The blank Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA) template for general use has been revised. This template is a tool to ensure privacy protection and security for users. Due to membership requests regarding a quick method of determining whether personal information is being used or not; the revised template places emphasizes on completing the first four questions in Part 1 to establish whether a PIA is required.
A completed PIA may be used as a communication tool to assist district staff in monitoring new initiatives. It also helps alert IT professionals to potential risks, and unintended consequences that may arise before deployment. Note that the revised template includes an appendix of legal authorities that can support the mitigation risk strategies described in your district’s PIA template.
